This book is difficult to place, it is not clear to what section of the public it is addressed. The author is a scientific man and has published a volume of poems, and it has been said that in this book he shows how in the hands of a poet science wins warmth and colour. The medical man will not find much that is new, but his knowledge is presented to him in a new, vivid and imaginative way which makes all the chapters eminently readable and often suggestive. The chapters on heredity, mendelism and the evolutionary position of man are certainly attractive, though very few will follow the author in his belief that the petty portion of the Universe known as the earth " was
